Are You Embracing the Ugly Christmas Sweater Phenom?

It’s become an annual trending phenomenon!  That time of year when you search your closet into the land of Christmas sweater misfits and find stored away amid the darkest corners that Ugly Christmas Sweater.

You follow the smell of peppermint candy canes and dig out last year’s ugly memories to shake off the Christmas glitter and dab off the forgotten eggnog stain to get ready for this year’s “Ugly Theme Party" and celebrate in style.

It might be the same traditional “Ugly Christmas Sweater” you wear every year or maybe it’s time to upgrade the ugly level and buy something new.  Or, should you buy someone else’s old?

When this trend first started, it was fun to go to your local second hand store in search of a new “old” Ugly Christmas Sweater for around the price of five bucks. Now, it seems, every major retail store has jumped on the ugly band wagon. Second hand stores have upped their prices on used Christmas sweaters and taking advantage of the demand for those Christmas sweater misfits.

If you want to find someone else’s trash to be your treasure of ugly and unique, you must shop early.

Of course, you can now buy a new “Ugly” at most retail stores, but most likely, at the price of new. This is what I ended up doing. Stores and online shopping sites have gotten very clever with so called ugly and have added some fun, nostalgic and comical choices.

This ugly tradition has grown to be so popular that a National Day was created on the 3rd Friday of December.

Cheers! This Santa won't be driving his sleigh today.

National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day has brought a Santa satchel full of different holiday parties geared around this day. Everything from office parties, 5k runs, winter festivals, business events and even airline discount offers if you wear your Ugly Christmas Sweater

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is a good excuse for an office gathering and cookie eating party.

I just happened to be at a local pub when a bus full of ugly sweater patrons bounded in with all there festive and ahem...strange and questionable designs.

Does that sweater work in this nippy weather?

Is that a carrot in your sweater or are you just happy to see me?

It’s so fun to see what ugly treasures people come up with. The crafty people have fun creating and putting their own ugly touch on sweaters. That's awesome!

Here’s hoping you found your perfect ugly style this Christmas season and you have embraced all the holly and jolly celebrations with flare.

Until next year, I'll pack mine away into the land of ugly misfits. Then next Christmas, as I'm digging in the dark corners of the closet, I’ll follow the smell of stale beer and Andes mints to bring it out for its second run.

The fun will be building on the “Ugly” each year and then it’ll be well on its way to being an annual tradition for Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

Do you have a reliable Ugly Christmas Sweater you wear every year?

Got Ugly? 'Tis the Ugly Sweater Season!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
