The play production of "Girls Only" on this particular theatre night out in Minneapolis had unexpected surprises and some exciting connections that went far beyond just a regular “Girl’s Night Out.”
For me, it was a
RELATABLE woman connection, a HUMOROUS connection and a PERSONAL
connection.
When settling into
our seats at this play, it became very apparent that if you didn't own a pair
of BOOBIES and a HOO HA, you were in the minority.
The whole audience
consisted of women and, maybe, five guys.
The play, after
all, was called "Girls Only - The Secret Comedy of Women!” Click on the title link for more information to this fantastic show.
When first walking
in, I knew this wasn't going to be any ordinary play. Only two women made up
the cast. There wasn’t a fancy grand
entrance to start the show. In fact, these two women were already visibly on
stage before the show even started, in character and in costume, which consisted
of only their bra and underwear.
Right there, I
knew, not only are these women totally and completely confident with their
stage presence, but clearly they were toting a great sense of humor!
I was in awe of
this confidence.
It got my
attention.
I'm sure this was
the whole idea to draw us in.
This makes for my FIRST
connection. RELATABLE to
women – the idea was to point out body image and what women face DAILY with our own personal
insecurities. Kudos to these women for putting their RIGHT and LEFT boob
forward to show we're all in this together!
The SECOND
connection, was right up my lane, it was dang funny – presenting it in a
HUMOROUS package and being able to LAUGH
at ourselves when remembering those awkward adolescent years that were innocently logged
in a diary.
Also, the revealing
of some hilarious uses for Maxi Pads and Tampons was pure genius! Think
floor Swiffer and Christmas tree ornaments!
These are only a couple of the crazy good ideas.
However, the
best was a choreographed ballet interpretation of these ladies putting on
pantyhose. I won’t be able to put on
pantyhose the same EVER again! Not without orchestrated music, at least!!
The THIRD connection,
a more PERSONAL one – took us afterwards, to actually meet the writers and
creators of the show. The two women, who had written the script and brought
their story to the stage, had first met at Improv theatre. They had collaborated together for this show’s
creation and initially played themselves in the beginning.
The whole production has now grown larger than their expectations and has played in many cities..how GREAT is that!
As someone
who has dabbled in a little Improv acting and, now developing, my hand at writing,
this was great stuff to hear!
Golden
nuggets of info from women who actually started from scratch and worked hard at
their accomplishments.
This
"Girls Only" production was truly eye opening, inspiring and a laugh
out loud good time. It unlocked some meaningful secrets of women.
In addition,
it was a great night out with a terrific friend sharing our own personal girly stories and laughing at all our goofy experiences!
To top it
off, WOMEN BONDING wouldn't be complete without a parting GIFT!
Yes...you
see correctly. I think I'll keep this one as a memento.
WEIRD,
maybe? But, how often do you get a feminine sanitary product that actually brings a "feel
good" moment!
So, if you
don’t mind, I’ll INSERT that
comfortably into my MEMORY box!!
If "Girls Only" is scheduled in your CITY- GO SEE IT!
After the laughs, enjoy "a square of chocolate."
