Before Dancing With The Stars, there was Bobby and
Cissy! You're thinking, Bobby and Cissy...Who?
As a kid growing up in the 70's, a familiar occurrence was the The Lawrence Welk Show. It was a popular show in its time
and, generally, watched among the more maturely aged demographic. The Lawrence Welk
show entertained with mostly music from the Big Band era and some good old
fashioned Polka music.
Needless to say, when at grandma's house, this is what was on the boob tube. We would watch Bobby and Cissy, the featured performers, dancing perfectly together as they mesmerized their audience. I loved watching them. Just like DWTS, they made it
look so easy and graceful.
There were so many fun variety shows from the 60's and 70's! Such
great T.V. back then! The Ed Sullivan Show, Carol Burnett Show, Flip Wilson Show, Laugh-In,
Hee-Haw, American Bandstand and, heck, even The Donny and Marie Show. I watched them all!!
O.k. I admit it, I may have experienced some "Variety Show" overload! This might explain my fascination for dancing, singing and the theater.
Nothing today even compares to those classic variety shows. Even
the hilarity and slapstick humor from The Carol Burnett Show can never be duplicated.
I have such fond memories and, even now, carry a
little "Lawrence" along with me.
A song that still sticks in my head, is the “Goodnight” song
that was performed at the end of each LW Show.
Silly or not, I actually sang that song to my kiddos when
they were little, as I tucked them into bed! If it weren't for this, they wouldn't even know anything about Lawrence Welk. They’ll appreciate that memory one day….hopefully!
Wondering, am I the only one with these memories?
Enjoy this YouTube gem!
