Savoring the Minnesota Summer Days!

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”

I'll be taking some time to find and appreciate the peace and joy that is offered in this great country. So, I've decided to put my blog writing on a summer hiatus to discover new places, ventures and opportunities. Hoping to return refreshed and rejuvenated with new stories of laughter, inspiration and ideas to share.

All it takes is a slice of the little things that sometimes go unnoticed to lift our spirits.  Like a quaint town on the river that's a throw back to simpler times, Marine on St. Croix, MN.

Minnesota summers go by quickly and a lot of things are happening this summer that I need to savor.  I kicked it off with my son's high school graduation.  Soon, Mister O and I will be empty-nesters.  Sigh!

Then it was up to Duluth, MN to get my son registered for college, so we took some time to sightsee and find new places.  Just couldn't pass up this cute Candy Kitchen and tasting some handmade chocolate.

I know, I know...you're not surprised!

While sightseeing on our way to Two Harbors, we captured this mama doe and her fawn babies nursing on the side of the road.  How sweet is that.  They weren't even afraid of us watching nearby.

Nothing is more exhilarating than a bike ride that ends with a sound of a waterfall. I love waterfalls and babbling brooks.  Going down the stairs to Cascade Falls in Osceola, WI to get a better look proved to be worth it. Then there was the climb back up those stairs! A little winded near the end, but still worth it.

That's what savoring summer days is all about. Enjoying nature and appreciating all its gifts.

If you, too, are taking a moment to savor, rest and relax at your favorite place this summer, you could pass the time and scan through some of my older posts for some light reading or read them again as a reminder of what made you smile the first time.

If you haven’t already, please check out my post from June that includes the top ten most popular stories from the last 2 1/2 years of blog writing.  The results were surprising!

If you happen to be on Instagram, look me up and keep in touch as I post pictures/videos of other events and adventures this summer here.

Once again, so glad you took a moment to be here at ~ A Square Of Chocolate.

Happy summer days and savor the potato salad!
